Platinum Paragon is a level 9 Forgecraft spell that creates a platinum paragon, who deals damage when summoned and melee attacks when you do.

Useful Info

Imprint Weapon ability

Template:Flavour

In order to cast this spell at all, you must first assign it an artefact melee weapon with the Imprint Weapon ability, which takes 6 turns. Any melee artefact, even artefact magical staves, can be used.

Summoning

When casting the spell, you deploy the platinum paragon in a targeted square within a 7x7 region around you, dealing damage to nearby creatures (even allies).

The paragon can fight by itself, though in addition, it performs an instant melee attack whenever you melee attack. Dual-wielding Coglins will only trigger one attack from the paragon.

The paragon builds up charge as it attacks enemies, and when it has attained a sufficient amount, the spell can be recast to perform a powerful finisher - unleashing a weapon attack with a bonus damage multiplier against many nearby enemies, and destroying the paragon in the process.

While standing within 2 tiles of your paragon, you get the Protected status, which provides a 1/3 chance for the paragon to block any attack targeting you.

Strategy

Unrandarts can be imprinted, which can result in unique synergies - the lochaber axe is one of the best weapons you can give to your paragon. Some weapons are very risky to wield yourself, such as Obsidian axe with its self-mesmerizing, the Dark maul being slow even at maximum skill, or the Wrath of Trog being antimagic and risking berserk on each swing, but are completely safe and overpowered on the Platinum Paragon, and can push you towards getting Platinum Paragon online.

Even without unrandarts, some randart brands still work well: distortion can be wielded without consequence by your Platinum Paragon, antimagic will get you the spellcaster countering without the MP penalty, and heavy on a slow weapon will still be swung by your Paragon at the same speed as you attack with your own weapons.

The paragon is controlled by the computer, and is not very smart about its own positioning and movement, so it benefits from polearm reach and axe cleaving. It cannot wear a shield, so it is best to imprint a 2-handed weapon, particularly high-damage, low-speed ones, especially as it ignores its own weapons speed whenever you attack.
