Blorkula the orcula is a unique orcish vampire who can cast low-level Conjurations of several elements and Haste himself. He occasionally spawns with a strong weapon, like a battleaxe or glaive.

When mortally injured, he splits into a number of different-coloured vampire bats. These bats will recombine into Blorkula after some time; the recombined Blorkula's health depends on how many bats survived. If his component bats are all slain before they can recombine, Blorkula will die permanently. He also requires a lengthy cooldown before he can avoid another deathblow; if you kill him again shortly after he recombines, he'll die for good, but if you are forced to retreat from an encounter, he will likely have enough time to fully recover by the time you face him again.

Tips & Tricks

• Blorkula's a fairly tough customer. His undead nature renders him immune or resistant to several early disabling techniques (Mephitic Cloud, Ensorcelled Hibernation, wand of polymorph, etc), and it's difficult to effectively defend against his entire rainbow of spells at once in the early game. If you've identified them, a potion of resistance can come in handy here.
• Try not to get backed against a non-metal wall if you can help it; he can and will bounce Shock to hit you multiple times.
• Once you've killed his main body, you'll have to deal with several fast, evasive vampire bats. They're a step up from the normal bats you've fought so far -- they're just as undead as Blorkula, they have significantly more HP, and their bites hit significantly harder than normal bats and are vampiric to boot! If you can, backing into a corridor can help you take them down one by one. Or, use any area-of-effect attacks you have to strike multiple bats at once -- something like a wand of iceblast or warping can work in a pinch.
• If you worship Beogh yourself, he may turn neutral.

Trivia

• Blorkula the orcula is a reference to Mork from Ork, a rainbow-suspenders-wearing alien from the 70's television show "Mork & Mindy".
• If you polymorph him, his name will change accordingly (e.g. he might become Blorkula the centaur).

History

• Prior to 0.32, Blorkula was known as Blork the orc, and was a living orcish spellcaster with the Magic Dart, Throw Frost, Throw Flame, Haste, and Cantrip spells, and no special death mechanics.
• Prior to 0.27, he could cast Invisibility when low on health.
