New page

version032
When patronizing a particular god in Dungeon Crawl, you are sometimes rewarded with a gift from that god. These gifts reflect the overall theme and character of the gift-giving deity, and are typically only rewarded to those who have acquired a significant amount of piety. Gifted items can be searched for by pressing CTRL+F and entering "god gift".

Although all the various powers and abilities a god provides their followers might be viewed as "gifts" as well, Dungeon Crawl vernacular generally only refers to awarded items, mutations and spells as gifts.

Ashenzari's curses, Ru's sacrifices, and passive ally buffs (The Shining One & Beogh) are not counted as gifts for the purposes of this article.

Gods that award passive gifts
*Jiyva - Good mutations, including some that are exclusive to the god.
*Kikubaaqudgha - Necromancy spells.
*Nemelex Xobeh - Cards.
*Okawaru - Throwing ammunition.
*Sif Muna - Books.
*Trog - Melee weapons.
*Vehumet - Destructive spells.
*Xom - Random items and mutations, gold.

Gods with capstone gifts
Several gods offer gifts as a capstone ability, a one-time reward at 6* of piety, rather than them being given over time.

*Kikubaaqudgha - A choice of high-level necromancy spells or branding a chosen weapon with pain.
*Lugonu - Corrupts a weapon, giving it the distortion brand.
*Makhleb - Infernal Marks.
*Okawaru - One high-quality weapon and armor piece, out of a choice of four.
*The Shining One - Blesses a weapon, giving it the holy wrath brand and converting demonic weapons to their holy variants.

Gift timeout
The gift timeout is the period during which you cannot receive any more gifts from your current god until you gain more piety.

Your gift timeout is a value that increases whenever you get a god gift; the duration depends on the god. It decreases by 1 for every point of piety you gain. Once timeout = 0, there is a chance, when gaining piety, to get a gift. This chance also depends on the god. Afterwards, the timeout resets. Wearing an amulet of faith increases your piety gain by +25%, speeding up the timeout by that amount. It also increases the chance you get a gift once timeout = 0 by 33%.

The following gods use the gift timeout system:
*Elyvilon (Lifesaving ability)
*Jiyva
*Nemelex Xobeh
*Okawaru
*Sif Muna
*Trog
*Vehumet (Spells 6-15 only)

For Okawaru, Sif Muna, Trog, and Vehumet, if you would gain piety while gift time out > 0, there's a 75% chance that your piety won't actually increase (but gift timeout is still reduced).
